How to win a healthy snack for kids after school?

September 16, 2016 By: Katycomment

How to win a healthy snack for kids after school_After school, kids are tired, exhausted at least, and definitely hungry.

Once kids are home, parents will again deal with their diet and preparing a snack for them is like giving your child a reward for their hard work and long day in school.

To think that it’s almost time for dinner, or time for them to prepare and go to their out of school activities like sports classes or training.

So what do we prepare? How to win a healthy snack for kids after school?

  1. Fruits with Dip – wash  some strawberries, grapes or apples and add some dip made of sour cream with some honey or brown sugar. You can be creative by putting it on skewers or sprinkle it with some cinnamon.
  2. Egg and Cheese Quesadillas – layer a flour tortilla in the pan and top with cooked scrambles egg and grated cheddar cheese. Fold and cook until golden on each sides, then cut into wedges for easy smaller bites.
  3. Fruit Smoothie – wash fruits like berries, pineapple or apple, mango and papaya then put it on the blender. Add some whole milk, a spoon of yogurt and a spoon of honey for extra sweetness. Then blend it until smooth.
  4. Crackerwiches – or what we call cracker sandwiches. Spread some peanut butter and jelly then top it off with another cracker.
  5. Oatmeal Cookies – you can prepare a package of oatmeal cookie mix as the label directs. Add chopped mixed nuts and dried fruits for the kids to enjoy.
  6. Chicken and Waffles – waffles are not only for breakfast, try it for an afternoon snack. There are pre-cooked waffles to reheat or just prepare waffle butter. Add some chicken salad on top of the waffles.
  7. Granola Bars – you can cook home made granola bars with oats, nuts and dried fruits. Or simply open some ready made granola bars and enjoy it with some cold fresh milk.
  8. Bagel with Cream Cheese – prepare and slice some baked bagels and spread it with cream cheese.
  9. Cheesy Chex Mix – toss chex cereal, mini pretzels and cheese crackers with grated parmesan, melted butter and bake. Or just simply open a bag of chex mix with some fresh fruit juice on the side.
  10. Nuggets and Sweet Potato Fries – bake chicken gluten free nuggets and ready made sweet potato fries on 350 F for 20 minutes on until golden brown. Set it cool and serve it with some ranch sauce for dipping.

Prepare the kids snack before they come home, and let them have it while resting, playing or while doing their homework.

As part of parents afternoon routine, let’s win our kids after school snack and win a gold star from their heart!
