This week, my eldest son and I joined a wrestling camp organized by the members of our Jiu Jitsu school. It is open for kids and adults willing to learn wrestling.
Our wrestling coach told us that “if you want to be better in Jiu Jitsu you should learn how to wrestle”.
What is Wrestling anyway? It is a combat sport involving grappling type techniques such as clinch fighting, throws and take downs, joint locks, pins and other grappling holds.
The wrestling camp was a 4 days (3 hours everyday) of training. Good thing about summer and being a housewife we are able to join.
What we did for 4 days?
Warm up routines itself are tiring yet will boost your energy which needed for the wrestling drills to come.
- Body shots
- Job steps
- Cart Wheels
- Tumbling/Body flips
Wrestling Drills are not simple but once learned will surely benefit us from our Jiu Jitsu take downs and grappling.
- Proper wrestling stance
- Penetration steps
- Single/Double Leg Takedowns
- Head and hand defense
- Moving your opponent
- Down block, V Pose, Head Lock, Hand and V Chopped
- Monkey rolls, Chase the leg roll
We learned so much on this camp and what retain to us more is that “Position Wins Always“. Getting into right position will surely make you execute such technique and a big chance to cause you victory on any competition or grappling drills.
We hope to learn more about wrestling soon.
