What we learn so far about JUDO?

July 28, 2016 By: Katycomment

JUDOWhat is Judo? And how did we end up liking it?

Since we have started training Jiu Jitsu one of the first things that we’ve learned were take down techniques. There are so many ways to do this like tripping, arm dragging and throws. Take downs are also an advantage specially during competitions.

We learned that JUDO is more specialized on this kind of matter (take downs, falls and throws).

So we decided to join the Fort Worth Judo club and started learning the art of Judo.

What we learn so far?

FALL – we started on basic class where they thought us how to fall. Yes, that is right! They will teach you how to fall. It is very important to learn and be comfortable to fall first before learning how to take down somebody. It that way, you will not harm yourself and others. Our Sensei are very specific on teaching us how to fall properly. Falling properly without harming yourself and not being scared is the sign that you are ready to learn other techniques of Judo.

THROW – when you say Judo people always comes on mind is the word “throw”. Maybe because this is one of the main skill you will get to master when you learn about Judo. In basic class that we attended, we learned some “osotogari” where you will be using your leg to take your opponent down (more like of tripping the feet); and “ogoshi” or hip throw. Like I said in Judo you need to learn how to fall as you will be doing a lot of throwing too.

JUDO PIN – after you did the throw and you take down your opponent, next thing you need to do is to pin him down. This is like holding your opponent down and making him stay on the mat.

At first, these basic techniques are extremely hard for us to do and to bear. Bruises and body pains are proofs that this is not an easy sport. Attending class more often helps us getting used to fall, thrown and get pinned down; so patience, strong-willed and practice is really needed when you do this sport.

For sure there are so much to learn about Judo and we are excited about it. Somehow the Judo techniques also helps us in our Jiu Jitsu grappling.
