Rest is best, I once heard this caption on a carton show when my youngest son is watching. And it came to my mind after a long day in school, homework, sports and other activities children are still up and active by the end of the day. It seems like they have this unlimited energy, kids are restless.
So much toys and gadgets putting kids to bed is now a struggle. With our kids growing, sleep is very important. They say, kids ages 3-6 years should at least have 11-13 hours of sleep everyday, and to be able to make it they should be in bed as early as 7PM.
My husband and I are trying these 5 ways to keep our sons bedtime easy;
#1 : Put away toys/gadgets – 30 minutes or 1 hour before bedtime ask your kids to put away their toys and gadgets as these things will just keep them stimulated and awake. I know this can be hard to deal, but talk to them and have some good conversation instead of them nailing their eyes and ears on the ipad.
#2 : Give them a warm bath – it will not just to make them clean but also making sure to make them feel fresh. There are also alternative soaps and lotions that has chamomile which is good for sleeping.
#3 : Give them warm milk – milk is a good source of calcium that helps our bones, not only they will benefit this nutrients but also will not make them feel hungry in the middle of the night.
#4 : Read a book – recently my son got interested on reading chapter books as they were reading it from school. Reading books is a good habit that our kids should start on while they are young. Reading them story or sometimes telling them your own version of stories are good ways to help your kids enhance their imagination and conversation skills.
#5 : Lights Off – there is a study that sleeping with lights off helps you rest better than when lights on. You can buy some night light or cool lamp if your kids are afraid of the dark.
Bedtime is a struggle and we know that sleeping too late will make our children suffer the next day and days to come. Just be persistent and try to help them make it a habit to sleep on time.
