Jiu Jitsu : Story at a Glance

April 6, 2016 By: Katycomment

Jiu JitsuWhy do we like Jiu Jitsu?

Like boxing we had this sport since we joined to UFC gym. I was hesitant at first as I saw others getting pinned down and got hurt. For me it is more fighting than a workout. But then my husband encourage me to watch and learn the importance and art of this sport.

My eldest son also started joining and to my surprise he liked it. They like BJJ so much as they train almost everyday and even get to join tournaments. It was a scary moment for me to watch them, and thank goodness they didn’t end up getting hurt so bad.

I got interested upon watching my boys and started to join an all women BJJ class every Saturday.

Jiu Jitsu is now one of our most favorite combat sports.

To know about this sport, here are some information:

Jiu Jitsu or Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a modern martial art, self defense techniques and a combat sport focuses on grappling and ground fighting. This sport was formed from Judo fundamentals and eventually became its own art.

BJJ promotes the concept in which a person can successfully defend himself against a bigger, stronger opponent by using proper technique, leverage, and strength. This training can be used for sport tournaments (gi or no gi), MMA competitions or self-defense.

BJJ have different styles of fighting;

  1. Ground Fighting – BJJ has its greatest emphasized on ground fighting as you do the grappling on the ground.
  2. Training Method – are the technique drills in which it focus on submissions and physical conditioning.
  3. Primary Ground Positions – this is to take a dominant or controlling position before applying submission. These are the side control, full mount, back mount and guards.
  4. Submissions – have two categories, joint locks and chokes.

In Jiu Jitsu, there is a ranking system which shows on the fighter colored belts. These belts signify their increasing levels of technical knowledge and practical skill. A player or a fighter will start from “white belt” until they reaches the highest “black belt”.
